Extensive and key
competence
In our school, we aim to nurture skills such as independent judgement, decision making, teamwork, critical thinking, empathy, conflict management and resolution, as well as the ability to adapt to new situations. We believe that these are the key abilities necessary to successfully navigate this new and ever-changing society. We consider them as important as the knowledge and skills taught at traditional schools.
Development in your own way
and pace
At Livingston, we allow each student to develop in their own way and at their own pace. Evidently, no two students are the same, and it therefore makes little sense for them to be doing the same tasks at the same time. Given our emphasis on nurturing their strong points and natural talents, every student is able to make quicker progress in comparison with the traditional curriculum. Rather than follow this, we use individual plans decided on by the student and the teacher, which cover a predetermined period. Each student therefore has a say in both the pace and content of their study plan. This does not mean, of course, that our curriculum omits those topics that are not as easy or attractive to our students; our students must still study them to some degree, albeit with the added benefit of doing their own planning.
